Projects to come......

Besides the chair I posted a few days ago, I am working on some organization things around here. One of them is this.....

Can you see where I am going with this......stay tuned. And the other project involves this Goodwill sweater I picked up for $2.00 yesterday. :)
Hope to post at least the sweater "surprise" tomorrow. The legos??? Who knows? I think it will take me a year to sort them all! :)

A valentine's project....or two......

Good morning! I wanted to post a quick valentine project I worked on the other day. I wanted something for my front door. I had this wreath with this tinsel galore on it...I think I got it last year at Big Lots after valentine's day....but I wasn't diggin' the red tinsel.

So, I realized I had a bit of red burlap left over from a previous project. So I jumped right in! I wrapped the wreath in the burlap. I just wrapped it right over the tinsely-stuff.

So there you go. Then....and this next part I forgot to take a picture of...sorry.....I decided I wanted to do a burlap flower forit. I cut a piece of burlap, pulled a string out to "bunch it up", then wrapped it in a circle.....ta-dah! A flower! then I took my scrabble tiles and spelled L-O-V-E on the flower and glued it on.

I took some upholstery webbing and hung the heart from that, and then put an old white frame I had around it and hung it on the door. Done! Whatcha think?

The last project was a wreath for my chalkboard in the entry area. I bought some old sheet music at an estate sale awhile back. I just folded it up, hot glued the papers to a small circle wreath form I bought at the dollar tree, and attached a heart in the middle. Since this picture the heart has fallen off. I need to find something lighter. This is a plastic plate. :) I forgot to take pics again. I am trying to remember but sometimes I get to creatin' and just forget. :)

Have a blessed day!!! ~hugs~

Week 3's verse is......

This week's verse is Luke 9:24. Remember we learned Luke 9:23 last week, then Romans 8:18 before that.  So...continuing on in Luke 9 with verse 24......

New Living Translation (©2007)
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.  Luke 9:24

Good luck!

Another before and after.......and my "beach" wall

I have been meaning to post this pic for awhile and keep forgetting...story of my life! Does anyone else "forget" as much as I do? :)  I bought this awesome little table from a garage sale last summer for $4.00! $4.00!!! I moved it to the  side as I continued to shop and people continually wanted it....the lady in charge kept having to turn them away from MY table....you know.....it was MINE! OK. Sorry. Anyway...she told me they used to have it in their ANTIQUE SHOP and it was from the 1930's or 40's I believe....anyway, I loved it. I knew paint could fix this baby right up!

So....I painted away and then I sanded. And here it is....this was taken at Christmas, hence the lights. :) And please ignore the dust/particles of whatever under it. This is my reality folks. If I try to take pics when all is perfect, I will never get a picture taken. :)  Anyway, I love it!

And while I am at it, I wanted to show you my BEACH wall, which is where this table sits now. In the picture, I have a bench I LOVE under the pics but have since moved it to the foot of my bed. :) I am sure at one point it will be here again. :)
We have had beach pics made with the boys every year since they were born....minus two or three for family things/emergencies/issues. I treasure these. To see how my family, and how my boys have grown, blesses me every day just passing by it. These photos used to be upstairs and I didn't get to enjoy them near as much. Much to Mr. KKP's dismay, I moved them...again. :)

One more item I purchased at that garage sale......this baby........lovely, huh?

She will be once I am finished. :) Stay tuned........off to continue celebrating with my middle son who is 14 today. I will post the memorization verse for this week later. ~Hugs~

How is Luke 9:23 going?

HI...just checking in to see how everyone is doing on the verse memorization for the week??? I think all of us have memorized it here. :) Well.....except Preston. I need to incorporate the easiest version for him. Note to self to do next week. :)

Loving what this verse says this week and what it means......taking up our cross daily. Wow. That is a hard one but God knows this is hard. I guess that is why he says daily. Day by day....the only way. :) The part about "turning" from our selfish ways....good one too. Jesus says not to just stop, but to "turn" from it...literally to turn our back on it, repent, change. Whew. Working on that one.

Enjoy the three-day weekend if you have it. We do. Lots of family time and maybe some craftin'. I am due. Need to get some new pics up. Hugs~

Today's frugal facts

OK...At the risk of sounding "cheap", I am going to put two frugal facts out there that I have done quite a bit and it has been wonderful and a great money-saving tool. Ready?

Re-use ziploc bags! :)

That is easy right? I know this is not rocket science, and I am definitely not the first to come up with this idea, but it is really a great one.  Now, don't judge or be afraid to ever eat here again thinking that cookie I gave you might have been in an "old, used ziploc bag" that housed yesterday's dinner. :) Nope! Not even close. I try to label them as I empty them. I might write BREAD on the outside knowing it housed leftover rolls, dinner loaf, etc. That way, I can go back and put bread in it again. Now, I don't re-use them for 3 years or anything like that. When they get worn, I throw them out. But think about this....I was cleaning the kitchen this morning, and had two brand new baggies that I stuck left-over deli bread in (that we used to make french toast last week) and another I used for about 10 ginger cookies I had left from a box. Why throw those baggies away? They were used ONCE. Really. So......save them. Find a place that will work to house them, and that you will remember :), and re-use them. :) Also, wondering what happened to the content of those bags? That brings me to frugal fact #2.

Freeze "old" or left-over cookies and bread, cereal and cracker bits, and use them for your next dinner. :)

I put the bread in the freezer and the cookies too. Next time I need a pie crust, or ice cream topping, I will grab the ginger cookies, and crush them or stick them in the food processor and add them to the crust or add them to ice cream. :). The cracker bits/cereal bits have been known to find their way into the same baggie and then processed together to cover country fried steak, chicken and/or pork chops. :) Of course, you can't use Fruity Pebbles for this, but you can use Life, Cheerios, Crispix or Chex, which are a few of the cereals we eat. The bread will process great too and then I use the bread crumbs for the same thing. Try it....and you won't have to buy bread crumbs in the box again. :) Good luck!

Week 2~Bible verse memorization challenge

Luke 9:23

New Living Translation (NLT)
23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

This is our memorization verse this week! We (the family) actually studied it in church today and Chandler and Rhett wanted to do this one this week, though I had another one planned. I love it though! Chandler actually wanted to do Luke 9:24, so I said we should just do both together.....but they opted for this one this week, and the other one the next.

I hope to have some projects posted later today. I just wanted to get the verse posted! Hope your Sunday is wonderful!

Another "late" Christmas present project

Well, my friend Sheri and i have this deal.....I actually think most of my friends and I have this deal......we DO NOT have to give birthday and/or Christmas gifts on time! Whew! Thank goodness! :) They know me all too well, and hey, it is kinda fun to get a "late" present, right? Keeps the fun going and going.....anyway. :) Awhile back she told me about a saying her grandma used to use all the time and how much she loved it. I made a mental note about it and decided I would do "something" with this info regarding a gift for her for Christmas. Well, in Niki fashion, I TOTALLY forgot what she said the saying was and then one day it just came back to me (whew! and thank you Lord) so I thought...I better get started on this. I forgot to take pics of the whole process unfortunately, but i still got enough for you to get the picture. First, using the old reclaimed fence Mr. KKP retreived(still loving that we have SO MUCH wood left), I asked him if he would secure the boards together for me. (And in doing so I got another tutorial on the nail gun...yay!). So...he did.

First we lined up the boards the way I wanted them. As you can see, I had already painted two of them thinking the words might fit on there.....NOT! Then we turned them over to secure the other boards on the back.

Isn't my craft room lovely in the background? :) And TA-DAH! Perfect. :) Thanks honey.

Umm....the next part is where I forgot to take pics. Sorry. I then painted all the boards a different color. I just dry-brushed some paint on the other boards and then stamped the saying on it. I didn't want it to be "perfect" as I wanted it to look kind of "oldish."

And there you go!
She really loved it and it made me SO HAPPY to see her like it so much!

If you haven't jumped on the "52 verses in 2012" with the Blake family, please do! We are learning Romans 8:18 this week. I hope to post the verses in the side -bar some time this week. Hope your week has been great!

Happy New Year!

Well, 2012 is here...already. I can't believe it. Of course, it always feels like the new year arrives too soon and the past year flies by too quickly. I told Preston tonight I wish sometimes I could stop time and that he and his brothers would not grow up. :) I want to keep my babies right here in my nest but I know that is not what God intends. I am to raise them to love Him and to glorify Him so that one day when they leave this nest they will seek Him first and live their life for Him. :) But I would love for them to stay right here forever.....is that wrong? :) We had such a great holiday...just hanging out as a family. Mom was here and that was an added bonus.....even more fun.

With the new year starting, I of course began to think of GOALS (not resolutions) for the upcoming year. My oldest son came up with a great one! Awhile back he talked about learning a new Bible verse every week of this year. I thought it was a great idea and told him I was definitely on board! So...with that, the Blake family will be learning a new verse every week. 52 verses. Awesome. (He later told me that he thought he might do a verse every 3 or 4 weeks...oops.)

We thought about starting with John 3:16. I googled a few things and found that this verse is the most sought out verse on the internet. Sounds like a great place to start...but everyone already knew this one. Yay! So.....in studying some notes I had taken this year, and looking in my own Bible and searching a bit online, I think we came up with 52 verses that will serve us very well! So with that, we are off! Hope you will come along for the ride and memorize with us!   The first verse?

Romans 8:18 (New Living Translation)
Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.
